Files

Browse, search and manage the documents the brain reads.

The Files page lists every document the brain has learned from. Open it from the top bar.

Documents sit in folders. Click a folder to go in, and use the breadcrumbs to go back. You can switch between List View and Grid View, sort by Name or Date Added, and filter by type: Documents, Spreadsheets, Emails and Text files. The search box, “Search in Files”, matches file and folder names and paths, not the words inside a file.

Click a ready file to open a preview. Open and Download are in each file’s menu.

Each file shows its state:

  • Processing: the brain is still reading it. It cannot be opened yet.
  • Ready: it is searchable and can be opened.
  • Failed: the brain could not read it. Hover to see why. Admins can Dismiss the failure.

A file marked Private came from someone’s personal connection and only its owner sees it. See Connected apps.

Only admins can change what is in the brain. Members see the list without these actions.

  • Upload: choose New, then Upload Files or Upload Folder. You can also drop files onto the page. A folder keeps its structure. Supported types are pdf, docx, xlsx, txt, eml and md.
  • Replace: in a file’s menu, choose Replace and pick the new version. If the content has not changed, nothing is replaced.
  • Delete: choose Delete in the file’s menu. This removes the file and everything the brain learned from it. Answers no longer draw on it.

The same file uploaded into two folders is one document, kept in the first folder.

Documents that come from a connected app, such as Dropbox, appear here too. They follow the app’s shared folders. See Sharing folders and areas.
