Getting started

Let the brain set itself up

On a new deployment, an admin gives the brain the company's website and it writes the company brief, shapes the skill tree and remembers the facts on its own.

When your deployment is new, the first admin to sign in is brought to a setup page right after the three profile questions. The brain asks for your company’s website, guessed from your sign-in email when it can, or for a line about what you do. Press Build my brain and it reads a few pages of your site, writes the company brief, lays out the departments, teams and jobs of your skill tree, places the installed skills and remembers the facts it found. It takes a minute or two.

The build needs a model. If none can answer, the setup page says so and holds the button.

Four steps light up as the brain reaches them: reading your website, writing the brief, shaping the tree and remembering the facts. The brain’s own messages appear beside them. If a page of your site cannot be read, the brain goes on with what it has and says so.

The brain sums up what it learned and offers a few choices:

  • Looks right: nothing more to do. Press Open my tree to go to the skill tree.
  • Change a department or Change the brief: say what to change, in your own words, and the brain makes the change.
  • Start over: begin again from the website.

Everything it made is yours to edit afterwards: the brief under Company context, the tree with Edit tree on the home page, and the facts on the Memory page.

Skip for now takes you to the skill tree as it is. The getting-started pill on the home page offers Let the brain set itself up as its first step, so you can come back to it. A build left part-way can be abandoned with Use a different website, and one that was never finished expires after a day and can be started again.

Only your own website: the home page and a few pages that say what the company does, who it serves and how it is organised. It never reads other sites, and it never invents prices, names, numbers or policies. What it could not find is marked “not recorded” in the brief.

Only admins see the setup page; members are never sent there. A deployment that already had chats or documents when this feature arrived starts with the setup skipped. The deploying team switches the feature on with BUSINESS_SETUP_ENABLED (see Environment variables).
