Choices and details

How the brain offers quick answers and asks for several details one at a time.

Sometimes the brain needs something from you before it can go on. It asks in one of two ways.

When the brain wants you to pick between a few options, it shows them as pills under its newest answer. Select a pill to send it as your reply. You can also ignore the pills and type your own answer in the box.

Pills appear only under the newest finished answer.

When the brain needs several things before it can go on, a card appears above the box, headed The brain is asking for. It asks for one thing at a time and shows your progress, for example 1 of 3.

  • If the brain offers fixed answers, they appear as pills. Select one, or type your own in the field that says Or type your own.
  • Otherwise type your answer in the field.
  • Select Next to move on, or Back to change an earlier answer. Your earlier answer is kept.
  • On the last detail select Send. All answers go back to the brain in one reply, numbered in the order they were asked.

The card says: Never enter passwords or payment details here. It refuses to send an answer that looks like a card number or a bank number, and it checks the answers together, so splitting a number across answers does not get past it. If it refuses, remove the number and try again. The card also refuses to show a request whose label or fixed answers name a secret or payment details.

If a skill needs a key to reach another service, an admin stores it. See Managing skills.
