Approving writes

How the brain asks before it saves a Notion page, a Gmail draft or a Google Doc.

The brain can save its work into your own apps: a page in Notion, a draft in Gmail, or a Google Doc. It never does this on its own. Each time, it stops and asks you first.

When the brain wants to write something, a card appears in the chat. It shows:

  • what it wants to do, such as Save a Gmail draft or Add a row to a Notion database
  • where it will go, such as the Notion database or the Gmail mailbox
  • the details that matter: the title, the recipients and subject, or the database fields
  • a preview of the content

Nothing is written until you choose. Select Approve to go ahead, or Decline to stop.

  • After Approve, the card shows what was made, with a link to open it in Notion, Gmail or Google Docs.
  • After Decline, the card says nothing was written, and the brain is told you said no. It does not try again unless you ask.
  • If nobody answers within 15 minutes, the request expires and nothing is written. Your deployment can change how long it waits.
  • A schedule or trigger run does not wait for you. It leaves the card in its chat and finishes, and the card stays open for three days. Approve it there when you are ready.

If you reload the page or come back later, a card still waiting for you is shown again. Each request can be approved once, so approving it in two tabs never writes twice.

  • Notion: a new page under a shared page, a new row in a shared database with its fields filled in, or new content added to the end of a shared page. It only writes inside pages and databases shared with the brain.
  • Gmail: a draft in your own mailbox, with recipients, a subject and the message. Nothing is ever sent. The draft waits in Gmail’s Drafts until you open it and send it yourself.
  • Google Docs: a new doc in your own Google Drive, in a folder if you name one.
  • Skills: a change to one of your skills, shown line by line. See Changing a skill.

Drafts and docs always go into your own account: through your personal connection, or through the company connection only if you are the person who connected it.

If you connected Google or Notion before writing was available, the card or the tool may say it needs more permission, for example Reconnect Google to allow drafts. Go to Connected apps (or Settings, Connections for the company connection) and choose Reconnect. Reconnecting the same account keeps everything you share. On Google’s page, leave the box for drafts or for files the app creates ticked.

For Notion, an admin must turn on Insert content in the Notion integration’s settings. See Notion.
