Documents beside the chat

Reading Word and Excel files in the panel, and typing into a document the agent wrote.

What an agent makes opens in a panel beside the chat, so you can read it next to the conversation.

A Word file opens as a page you can read: headings, lists, tables, bold and images. An Excel file or CSV opens as a table with a tab for each sheet, the header held at the top as you scroll, and numbers lined up on the right.

Formulas show their answers. If a file holds no answer for one, the panel works it out; if it can’t, the cell shows the formula and a note under the table says Excel will work it out when you open the file. Very large sheets show their first 20,000 rows and say how many there are.

Download is always at the top of the panel. PowerPoint files and older Word and Excel formats (.doc, .xls) don’t have a preview, so they open as a card with a download button.

When an agent writes you a document, you can change it yourself. Select Edit, or click into the text, and type. You see formatted text rather than Markdown, with a small toolbar for headings, bold, italic, lists, links and tables.

Your edits save themselves when you pause or click away, and Saved shows at the top of the panel. Undo and Redo work while you are editing. Select Done or press Escape to go back to reading. Right after, Undo beside Edit puts the document back as it was, as a new version.

Everything you type in one go is one version, with your name beside it. Earlier versions stay, and the arrows at the top flip between them. To edit, go to the newest version.

Editing works on documents. Pages, images and slides an agent made are changed by asking it.

The agent always reads the newest version, so it sees your edits, and it keeps your wording apart from what you ask it to change. Your edits save when you click into the chat, so you can edit and then ask straight away.

If the agent saves a new version while you are still typing, nothing is lost. If everything you typed was already saved, the panel moves you on to the new version and says so. If you have words not yet saved, a message says who saved what, and you choose:

  • Keep Mine saves what you typed as the newest version. The other version stays in the history.
  • Use the Agent’s shows its version. Undo brings your words back as a new version.

Select words in a document and an Ask button appears. It puts them in the chat’s box as a quote, ready for your question.

Anyone with Can Reply can edit a document, and the version shows who wrote it. Can View can read every version but can’t edit. If a teammate saves while you are typing, the message above names them.
