Making a skill
How any member can make a skill: a short brief, an interview, a draft and a place on the tree.
# Making a skill Any member can make a skill, not only admins. The skill is credited to you and switched on as soon as you save it. ## Starting On the skill tree home, select **New Skill** at the top right. This opens the skill maker at `/skills/new`. If you left an earlier skill unfinished, **Continue a Skill**, above the question box, brings it back, and the maker lists your unfinished skills under **Pick up where you left off**. Each has **Continue** and **Discard**. The maker has four steps: **Basics**, **Interview**, **Draft** and **Place**. ## 1. Basics The brain asks six quick questions. Most are answered by picking a pill. 1. What kind of skill is it: write something, analyse or research, follow a process, or answer questions about a topic? 2. In one sentence, what should it do? 3. What does it work from? You can pick several: details the person types in, documents in the knowledge base, company context, or web research. 4. What does it produce: a long document, a short message, a table or list, a filled template, or a score or verdict? 5. Should it follow the steps exactly, or use judgement? 6. What tone should it have? Every pill row also lets you choose **Something else** and answer in your own words. ## 2. Interview The brain then interviews you in an ordinary chat, one question at a time, and writes the skill. This chat does not show in your history. If no model can answer, the maker says so and waits. ## 3. Draft When the draft is ready, select **Read the Draft**. It shows the skill's title, description, what it **Asks for**, and its files as tabs with `SKILL.md` first. - **Looks Good** accepts the draft. - **Change Something** lets you write a note. Select **Send to the Brain** and it revises the draft. ## 4. Place The step **Where does it go?** asks for a **Department** and a **Team** from the existing tree, and optionally a **Fills roadmap job**. You cannot create departments or teams here: only admins shape the tree. Select **Save to the Tree**. If a skill with the same name already exists, the maker refuses to save and tells you to ask the brain to rename it in the interview. It never replaces an existing skill. ## Done The page says **Saved**. Choose **Chat with It**, **See It on the Tree** or **Make Another**. To throw the work away at any point select **Discard**, then confirm **Discard this skill?**.Any member can make a skill, not only admins. The skill is credited to you and switched on as soon as you save it.
