Getting started

Your first chat

The three questions the brain asks you on first sign-in, and how to ask your first question.

The first time you sign in, the brain opens a short conversation at /welcome. It asks one question at a time:

  1. Name: what it should call you. This one is required.
  2. Role: your job title, as your colleagues know it.
  3. Day to day: what a typical day looks like and what you need to get done.

You can answer Role and Day to day later. Select Skip This Question to move on without answering, or Back to change an earlier answer. Skip for Now leaves the welcome page altogether; the brain remembers that choice in this browser and stops asking.

The brain uses your answers so it speaks to you as the person you are. It does not assume you are whoever a skill’s instructions describe. You can change them any time on your profile page. See Your profile.

Select Chats in the top bar. Type your question in the box at the bottom and press Enter to send it. Auto, beside the model, sends it to the right teammate; select it to choose one yourself (see New chat and Auto). Press Shift + Enter to start a new line. You can also use the Send Message button.

The brain searches the knowledge it holds and answers. It shows what it is doing while it works, for example searching knowledge or searching the web. Read more in Asking and answers.

Select New Chat at the top of the team rail (on a phone, the New Chat button above the chat) to begin a fresh conversation for Auto or a teammate of your choice. To start one with a particular agent, select New Side Chat on its page or under it in the open team list. Your earlier chats stay in your history. See Main thread and side chats.

The skill tree home also has a box where you can ask a question. It opens a chat and sends the question. See The skill tree.
