Sharing folders and areas
Choose what the brain reads from a connected app, and what happens when you stop sharing.
# Sharing folders and areas Connecting an app does not share anything yet. You choose what to share, and the brain reads exactly that. ## Connect (admin only for the company) Admins connect an app for the company under **Settings**, on the **Company Apps** tab. Each app has a **For the company** line with a **Connect** button, which asks who the app is for first. When the app is connected the button becomes **Manage**. If the sign-in has expired, the button reads **Reconnect**. Most apps send you to the provider to approve access, then bring you back. Some apps, such as Base44 and Fireflies, ask you to paste a token or key in a form instead. ## Choose what to share After connecting, the **Manage** dialog opens. It shows the account, a picker, and **Save**. - For apps that share **folders**, tick the folders to share. A ticked folder includes everything inside it. - For apps that share **areas**, tick the areas. An area is a named group of records, and there is nothing to browse inside. QuickBooks and Slack work this way. Each app uses its own words. Dropbox, SharePoint, OneDrive and Google Drive say folders and files. Outlook says mail folders and messages. Gmail says labels and messages. Google Calendar says calendars and events, and shares them as areas. Teams says teams, channels and conversations. Slack says channels, conversations and threads. Base44 says apps, tables and records. Notion says pages and databases. Fireflies says areas and meetings. A card shows a summary such as "3 folders shared · 412 files · checked 4 min ago". Something that cannot be read yet, such as photos and scans, is listed under **Can't read yet**. ## Stop sharing or disconnect Unticking a shared folder and choosing **Save**, or choosing **Disconnect**, takes its documents out of the brain. When files would go, the dialog first asks, for example "This removes 12 files from the brain." Choose **Stop Sharing** or **Disconnect** to confirm. ## Your own connection Where an admin allows it, the **Connected apps** page shows a **Just for you** line on an app. Choose **Connect**, then pick what to share. Only you can ask about it. Files from a personal connection show as **Private** on the Files page.
