Budgets

How spending allowances work, and how the super-admin sets and resets them.

Every answer costs money to produce. A budget caps how much each person can spend on answers over a period.

When an allowance applies to you, a small balance shows in the chat, for example “$4.20 left”. It gets more prominent as you run low. When it runs out, the chat tells you “You’ve used your allowance for this period” and when it resets. The balance does not show if your allowance is unlimited, and it does not show for the super-admin.

Only the super-admin, the one account your deployment names, sees the Budget tab under Settings and can change anything here. An admin who is not the super-admin cannot.

On the Budget tab, set the Default allowance (USD) for everyone and a period: Daily, Weekly or Monthly. Leave the amount blank for unlimited. Choose Save Changes.

The table lists each User with Spent, Turns, Limit, Remaining and Allowance. For each person, choose one:

  • Inherit default: follow the default.
  • Custom amount: enter a USD amount.
  • Unlimited: no cap for this person.

Then select Save on that row. Every choice needs it.

You can set an allowance for a person who has never signed in. It applies when they do.

The reset button on a person’s row (“Reset Spend”) clears a person’s recorded spend for the current period, after you confirm. It cannot be undone. The record of what each answer cost stays.

The cost of an answer is known only when it finishes. So a person can go a little past their allowance, and by more when several chats run at once.
